Promise Land Church humbly began in 1910 where church services were held in a tent. Due to the faithfulness of its members, the church moved to a church building that was located at 224 Reno Street, Memphis, TN. In April 2000, church officials and the congregation appointed Elliot R. Shelton Sr., as senior pastor. The church acknowledged that there must be new and vibrant leadership to take the ministry into undiscovered territory. During the first year under the leadership of Pastor Shelton, Promise Land Church experienced tremendous growth both spiritually and numerically. After renting out a larger facility, the church came together to purchase a new worship center to house its growing ministries. For over a decade, the church continues to expand its boarders to reach the growing demands of the community and metropolitan area. With several ministries created to support the mission of the church, the church has moved beyond the confines of the walls and has become an avenue for both internal and external ministry. Several external developments were birthed out the continual growing vision of the church. From a nationwide television program, The Land Academy child care facility, and Promise Cares, a community development corporation, Promise Land Church continues to grow for the sole purpose of reaching the un-churched through avenues that God allows it to discover. Promise Land Church is grounded in prayer, evangelism, discipleship, and the relevancy of God’s Word. The church continues to experience God’s favor and blessing, and uses every opened door to positively impact the world in which we live. With over a century of dedication and commitment to the residents of Memphis metropolitan area, Promise Land Church continues to embrace those that it serves. The church continues to be, Committed to Christ without Compromise.
